The types of furnaces include soil-based \u201cjilhwaryo\u201d and the pottery-style baked \u201csagihwaryo\u201d, and appeared in various shapes depending on the region and circumstances in which people lived, such as the iron \u201cswehwaryo\u201d or \u201cbaekdonghwaryo\u201d used in wealthy households. Stone furnaces made by cutting and trimming stones were said to have been used by ordinary people. The \u201cgopdol\u201d furnace was regarded as the best of the \u201cdolburos\u201d, because of its meticulous organization and excellent heat preservation rate. A skilled craftsman carefully removed its insides, turned the rim, and made its handles and feet. After perilla oil is applied, the gopdol was baked for a day, and finally lacquered to finish.
