Signboard (懸板) is a piece embedded with letters or images, typically hung on the front and entrance of a building. The handwriting is written from left to right, and signboards written by a person of authority or master calligrapher were deemed highly. The signboard handed down by a country’s ruler was called “eupil signboard(御筆懸板)”, and was considered to be a treasure. The pen-name Wandang(阮堂) of Kim Jeonghui, inscribed on the signboard, is named after Wan Wen (阮元), a scholar of the Qing Dynasty, and is one of the most frequently used pseudonyms(雅號).
