CLUMSY'S COMMENT

The stem cup (馬上杯) is a drinking cup used while on horseback. It was used by soldiers who lived on horseback at war or garrison sites, and it was often implemented for ceremonies such as feasts and rituals. The shape is round, with a top-shaped bottom and high heeled legs. During the Three Kingdoms Period, earthenware cups emerged, then celadon cups after Goryeo, and stem cups made of buncheong and white porcelain were used since the Joseon Dynasty.

The Goryeo stem cup is called “masangbae” because it requires drinking from on top of a horse. (black oil)

When lye is applied, the color becomes black or yellow.
